Testimonials

What Billy has the ability to do onstage is to bring you to a place where you stop asking, “How did she do that?” And you start saying to yourself, “I want to see more. I want to believe. I want to be a part of what’s happening tonight.” Scott Shiller, LIBERTY MAGIC PRODUCER.

Her tricks were impressive, but I found myself looking more towards her story than the trick itself. She weaved humor, sadness, comedy and more into her act and it felt genuine. This is not me saying her tricks took a backseat, they did not. I was wowed by what she performed, but the theme and story weaved everything together so nicely. It felt real. I loved it. Marta Napoleone, MARTA ON THE MOVE.

‘Billy Kidd in Bridging the Gap’ is like a lush, wall-of-sound rock album. There are layers to this thing; there’s showmanship and theatricality. Kidd too is world-renowned and impeccably skilled, but her show doesn’t aim simply to wow — there’s deep, full-bellied laughter, absurdity, drama and even sadness. This is not performance art, though; while you’ll be moved at times during Kidd’s performance, she is more than capable of dazzling. Simon Collier, PITTSBURGH MAGAZINE.

…..with Billy Kidd what you see is VERY impressive. Even without the theatrical overlay, these tricks would be undeniably amazing. But it’s the element of theatre that makes her different. With her oddball sense of humor, quirky energy and mingled  UK/USA accent, Billy Kidd’s Doctor Who-esque energy and enthusiasm is infectious. Watching Kidd perform feels like watching one of the great stage-comedy “characters” in an early outing, like how audiences must have felt seeing Dame Edna or Pee-Wee Herman before they broke big. It’s especially telling that Kidd ends her show not with a spectacular trick, but with a theatrical bit: she lets the magic serve the story, but it’s the story that sends us home. Gary Kerestan, BROADWAYWORLD.

Her showmanship is exquisite and her connection with her audience is direct and genuine. I was more than willing to go along whatever odd, unpredictable, and magical path she chose to take us down. I could go on for hundreds of words about how much I enjoyed Bridging the Gap, but since one of the most delightful parts of the performance is its sheer unexpected weirdness, I won’t go into too many details. Her onstage persona has a puckish quality that must have taken years to hone but feels absolutely effortless. The overall sense is of entering an Alice in Wonderland -esque world where reality isn’t so much removed as it is askew. Laura Caton, PITTSBURGH IN THE ROUND.
